Necessary Software

i decided to reinstall my new system with winxp

i was wandering what are the major programs i need. if you dont mind can some1 make a list... i need a program to watch dvds, i used intervideo windvd 6 which isnt that great. i need a program to download files, flashget is getting annoying. i need free antivrus (i use norton right now), i need codec packs (k-lite)? and i need any other programs that can boost the speed of my pc such as windows defrag programs etc..

Heres a short list of software I would recommend:

Ad-Aware SE
AVG Free
Nero Demo (unless you have full version)
DivX Bundle
SpeedFan
K-Lite codec pack

There are a few others, I just cant remember them all off the top of my head.

Well you could use
OpenOffice.org instead of MS Office,
AVG AntiSpyware and AVG Antivirus or Avast! Antivirus,
I use DAP for a download manager,
VLC for watching DVDs.

All of which are free!
