need a compatiable DVD decoder

hi everyone !

i'm using Windows Media Player. file version 11.0.5721.5145

i got just a standard DVD drive. driver version 5.1.2535.0

when i try and play a DVD i get the message;

Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

i'm running Windows XP Home Edition 2002.

now do i need to buy program for playing DVD's or is there a link for a free download to get the compatible decoder ?

No you need an mpeg2 decoder and also a Dolby Digital (AC3) decoder. You can find both of these's free at places like freecodecs.com or others.
