Just to see how it stacks up against the one I have picked out as of yet.
Please let's see what you guys have up your sleeves.
Only one catch: it has to be quad core.

In my own opinion I would vote for the Phenom II 945 Quad-Core Processor. It is a great central processing unit. Also go with the motherboard and DDR3 memory Bomberboysk first recommended to you.

The Phenom II 955 is $20 more expensive and you are not going to see much more processing power with it over the Phenom II 945 processor.

Did you maybe have am2+ mobo and ddr2? With these:

And then a 955 it would be around ~$404.98

Okay, now I see why, I had cheaper RAM, same mobo that you picked out.
So it ended up being about the same.

2048MB: I plan on overclocking, so an unlocked multiplier really helps.

Anyone else got any builds?

El DJ, are you planning on buying any other components for your new system other than a processor, motherboard and RAM?

Yeah I'm gonna be going with a 4890 sometime this summer.

Bomberboy: A Zalman. I forget the exact model, but it's like in the top 5 of highest rated on Newegg.

Ah, the big copper 9700? Those are still pretty good coolers, especially for how long they have been out.
