Need a decent under $50 motherboard for Pentium/Celeron

hello. I think I messed up my motherboard and I would like to get a new one. I thought the one I had was pretty cool considering I was using a 1999 Gateway motherboard. This one was an ECS L4VXA2. I guess it isn't very good. I had a 2.7ghz celeron Northwood in it and swapped it out for a 2.8 pentium Northwood. According the the ECS website, this could take the 2.8 pentium Northwood. Well, it messed my motherboard up and thought it was a 1.8ghz. Computer won't even run now. I switched back to the 2.7 celeron which is the one that I'm going to use, still doesn't work. The pentium was out of another computer and I just wanted to see if it would work. The new motherboard that I want to get needs to be able to have a celeron or a pentium as I would like to upgrade to a pentium later. Don't really have the money to get a new CPU right now (would like an AMD). So I'm going to have to stick with Intel for now. Any decent motherboards for an intel celeron 2.7ghz or pentium? Would like to spend $20-$50. I see the L4VXA2 on Newegg is going for $15 right now, pretty cheap. Or, should I just get another one of those and wait to get a good mobo with an AMD later? Thanks

Any thoughts on the PC CHIPS M963GV (V5.0) Socket 478 SIS 661GX Micro ATX Intel Motherboard? $38 on newegg. Is this any better than my other one? They didn't really have many mobos with 400mhz FSB. I'm guessing this will work in my Dynex ATX mid case right? Is there a better mobo for the price range or would this be ok? Can I even buy a decent mobo for this price range?

Thanks for the reply. Will my CPU with 400mhz FSB work on a mobo with 533mhz FSB? The Asus P4V8X-MX Via Socket 478 MicroATX Motherboard that you mentioned has has 400mhz FSB but the RAM is DDR 333 PC2700. My RAM is PC3200. Will My RAM work with this mobo? The other two mobo's that you mentioned supported PC3200 RAM but lowest FSB was 533mhz and my CPU is 400mhz FSB. The Asus P4S8X-MX SiS Socket 478 MicroATX Motherboard looks pretty good but don't know if my 400mhz FSB CPU will work with that one since it is 533mhz. I do plan on getting a pentium in the future but probably not for a while. Thanks

Asus is a much better company then pcchips and ecs. ecs boards really suck.
now that would be based on opinoin, i have never had a ecs board have its onboard sound ports catch on fire  then get bno support and claim user error, when according to the reviews its happened to over 10 other people(just that posted reviews)

Just wondering, would it be worth it to spend about twice as much and get an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe P4 Socket 478 ? This mobo is exactly what I'm looking for (I think), just a little more pricey than what I was wanting to pay. It has CrashFree BIOS2 which I think I would like, considering my BIOS crashed and thats why I need a new mobo. Supports 800/533/400mhz FSB and DDR400. I would really like something to last me a few years and be able to upgrade to a decent Pentium. What are your thoughts on this mobo? Oh, is $99 a decent price. Cheapest I've found it so far.

Since I have one for my P4 system I can say yes to that. I picked it up at newegg in their open boxed section. It's a somewhat data but nonetheless enthusiasts boad. It's good for overclockng and if you decide to move up to a P4 stick with the Northwood.

Ok, thanks. I think I'll go with that one. Don't want to have to worry about something that isn't going to work well so might as well go for a good one.
