Need a good cheap mini

Ok I got to upgrade over Christmas for my Compaq Presario SR2177CL Desktop PC, first time I upgraded it; I got a 600W PSU an a Radeon HD 4770. So to not repeat the entire story from my sad thread here, I fried my board:( Newbie mistake but I killed it.

So I need a compatible mini board so everything wasn't for nothing...well an so I don't buy a new system all together, not that I could afford it.

I found a couple:
One
Two
Three
Four

I know this is a very cheap question but after gettin the new card and paying a pro to tell me I fried it, I'm looking to skimp by...Am I going to get a decent replacement board for any cheaper than the last one there?
I didn't notice Firewire on any of those, am I missing it? The board I'm replacing had it. I don't need anything more than what I had with A8M2N-LA , that's why I was upgrading...but I doubt I'd find another one of those given they're 3 years old.

Any additional suggestions? Which one listed would you guys reccomend?

For AMDs I personally prefer GIGABYTE boards, I don't know why, maybe because they're better for AMD processors or maybe that's how it got to my mind. ASUS for Intel and GIGABYTE for AMD. But they are both good and stable boards for INtel and AMD processors.

Right so here is few GIGABYTE boards up to $100

Can you tell us the "newbie mistake" you have done to fry your board?

Well I wasn't grounded at all, an in the dry winter season I guess I had some static, I always thought that was really an old wives tale about grounding if it's off an unplugged...but I guess not. Basically I force shut down and while it was off i put in the new RAM when I went to turn it back on I got no display just the PSU fan. When the tech came he unplugged all of the RAM to test the mobo and I guess that it was fried. If it wasn't already doing that even after I put the original RAM back in before the tech came I would have thought that he made a mistake and fried it...I mean everything was compatible so unless I could've done something else, I guess It was that miniscule static crap. But I want somthing very similar to my original board mostly so my 2x1Gb dual kits will work.

why do you need mirco?

I was doing my first upgrade, and I had pretty decent parts to throw in and have it stay relatively up to date with recent games and at least give me HD playback, I have a nice full 1080p monitor I haven't been able to use...well properly use because I didn't have the graphics card for it...but anyway, I got a good vid card, tripled my PSU wattage, and maxed out the RAM...but I didn't want to get a new case or anything more than that...and the current case will only fit a micro. If I had the budget I would've gone after a new case, big powerful mobo and a new processor...but I don't:(

But actually none of them have AM2 socket.
Does it need to? I don't even know where that's listed in the specs.

Just a thought: If he has an OEM computer, then won't he have an OEM operating system as well? If so, it won't accept a new mobo.

+1, gigabyte FTW with AMD. This board here is the AM2+ version of the AM3 board I had. VERY good board for a micro.

Avoid this board like the plague!!! Any lowend Asus board, for AMD atleast, is junk! HORRIBLE bios options and very limited options too.
