Need a good laugh?

Ok, I'm going to tell you a tale.. A magical tale... A tale of unfounded proportions... A tale of how my laptop went to hell with a first class ticket.

It all started about two weeks ago. While searching the web in a random fashion not really looking for anything inperticular, my wireless cuts out and dies on me. "Wait, what's going on? Why wont this thing load..." I open the wireless control to find it disabled so much so that I had to restart to get a connection back. A few minutes later it does the same thing again... and keeps on doing it until it no longer connects at all. So there I am, with my laptop, just glairing at the screen. I turn everything off and open it up to pull my mini PCI out and put it back in. The laptop turns back on and I still have no connection. Then the battery dies, can't hold a charge at all.

Later on in the week after using my modem, it dies also. "Cannot specify current modem!" it says. So, like my wireless card, I open the laptop back up. Turn it back on and it still can't find my modem. Later that day I go to reinstall the drivers. "ERROR: Please update your MSI to Windows 3.1 or higher." 3.1? I'm using XP! Later that night I just give up with the drivers and start to use my desktop. As time goes by I downloaded things I want to take with me, so since they are on my desktop I use my external HD to move them over to the laptop... 10 minutes after the E-HD was plugged into the laptop all the USBs died. I just give up for the day and went to sleep.

Sometime the next week I feel up to trying to fix the laptop again. Since the battery died I've been bringing the AC Recharger along with me where ever I go... It has now become so warn threw that I have to hold it is a possion so that it can send power. I rumage around the house for a good 2 hours trying to find the Windows XP Reinstall CD, and I do find it. I figure this will fix my wireless and modem problems. After 40 minutes of holding the AC recharger in place so the laptop wont turn off it finaly finished the reinstall. BAM! The Home key comes flying off the keyboard and smacks me in the face for no reason what-so-ever. Being baffled by this for awhile I go to snap it back on the keyboard, but oh no, that would be to easy! It actually was broken off to the point where I couldn't reattach it. I sigh and restart the laptop... I find that not only can't I reinstall games, etc. but the wireless and modem still don't work, I'm missing .dlls all over the place and the blasted thing is just erroring to hell and back. Angerly I turn it off and throw it aside on my bed...

And today, I spent three hours talking to tech support trying to fix it with them having me do everything that I've already tied to do to fix it. They give up since they're troubleshooting guide can't help anymore since they went through it and their manager has no idea what's going on with my laptop. So they said that they are sending me a new keyboard, battery and OS CD which should be here sometime this week.

So what have I learned? Dell=No
P.S. Sorry for the bad grammer, it's 1:33am and I'm pretty tired. :(

Dell=Hell, you might need to wipe the hard drive before reinstalling Windows, it helps the speed.

Dell really does suck, and they are having you do all the fixing?

What a conincidence that that would happen all on the same day (Or so close to one day) you must have done a shite load of stuff to piss of the luck fairys ROFL.

Keep us updated.

Kent.

Yeah, I'm doing all the fixing. Though the support woman asked if I wanted her to send a tech guy to 'help' install the keyboard and battery. That's what? Maybe a minutes worth of work? I've done it so many times before.

I don't know, maybe I forgot to do the luck dance. If anything luck owes me right now. Not only am I stressed from college but my dryer broke a week ago! Do you know how hard it is to find a 27 inche dryer within $450 that has a knob that isn't going to break off the first time you turn it, or a door that closes right? Very, that's how hard.

But I'll keep you all updated... Tuesday or Wednesday the stuff they sent me should be getting here. To quote the support woman, "When the OS CDs arrive I'll call you can help you install it." So the fun should start again soon.

Haha, that really does suck... so she's gonna try to hold your hand through the phone during the whole thing and think that's gonna make it work any better?
...just hope that you've been doing some random thing wrong and you'll find out what it is and then everything will be fine.

I think it's hilarious that everyone hates dells... they can actually be great computers, but I guess I can only say that because I didn't get one that falls apart on a weekly basis.

You should have let the Dell tech guy come around just so he can see how it plays up even with the new parts installed. Why not send it back to Dell to get repaired / replaced if still under warranty? Which I'm guessing it is if they are sending you free parts and even offering to send a tech guy around.

Breaks.

You shoulda just been like "no, I don't want a new keyboard, battery, and OS cd... I want a new laptop. send it to me NOW. It's under warranty" blablablablabla..... i had my dell laptop crap out on me and they sent me a new one.

I was going to demand a return for a new one when I first called, but when they said that they were going to send me that stuff, it should fix all the problems and be quicker then sending the whole laptop in... But if it doesn't work it's going back.

According to the tracking ID everything should get here sometime today. I even woke up extra early, 7:30am! Who wants to start taking bets on when it'll get here? :p I'm guessing 2:30pm

It says it's on its way to my house. :o

Edit: the DHL man came 10 minutes after I posted this. My new keyboard is installed, new battery is holding a charge and my new AC recharger is having a tea party with the new battery! Now I just have to wait until 5:30 so the tech support lady can 'help' me reinstall windows.

why does she have to 'help' you reinstall Windows?

Beats me. The CDs they sent are reinstalling the free things programs, a drivers cd, and reinstalling windows. I don't see whats so hard, reinstall windows, drivers cd and then the free stuff.

Free stuff includes, Antivirus Software, Support Software, Multimedia Software, and Internet Software. So basicly a free trial of McAfee and AOL. *shivers* There is no god.

good old mass manufacturing, the key flying off did make me laugh though, perhaps you should get a priest round to drive the evil spirits from the hard drive?
