Need a Laptop for an 8 yr old

I gave my son my old DELL a couple years ago and I want to get him a new one...he plays Minecraft & Terraria & Plants vs Zombies + uses it for his homework....not look'in to break the bank here just need something better than what he has....THX

Any ideas on an exact budget? I think for around $400 you should be able to find something that suits your needs..

For Minecraft? An extremely CPU intensive game? At least $600 for an i7 47xx

It runs smoothly on a $25 Raspberry Pi.

OP: I recommend the Dell Inspiron 5000 series. They start at around $600 I believe..

My dual core 1.8 Ghz could only do 25 fps at lowest settings, and it jad dedicated graphics

A Dell Latitude D430 would be cheap and durable, though it wouldnt run Minecraft worth a damn. Your gonna need something with at least HD 3000 graphics, and a used laptop with that would cost around $300. A Dell Latitude E6420 would work great.

If you only want to do new, you're not going to find a laptop with HD 3000. Only the newer HD 4000+. A laptop with that will cost around $500, new.

Keep in mind the Pi version is the mobile version, while they look the same, underneath they're completely different as far as resources and requirements.
