I need a laptop for school, i currently have a desktop with a amd 2.2 and 1 gig of ram. Im looking to get something equal or faster than this. I have used a few acer laptops and like them. I will not buy a dell, and recently hp seemed to have many problems with my friends laptops, which really narrows my choices.

Could i please ask why you would not buy dell.

Dell is amazing, techinall support you can't fault, you can get replacement parts within hours, if required, if under warranty.

I am running a dell inspiron 9400 notebook on widows vista business it is really good. I can highly recommend dell to anybody.

It beats most PC's too..

Hope this helps.

i have a friend who does owns a computer business building and fixing computers and when helping him i have noticed that most of the computers come in for repairs are dells and from multiple people i hear that they are the second cheapest computers built right behind emachines

That is in your oppinion!

There is a constant debate over PCs and Laptops.

You can just upgrade a PC and voila its better than a laptop, but you can move Laptop's around.

There is also debates over Dell, they have terrbile customer service IMO because i have had extrememly bad experiences every time i have tried.

Dell desktops arent the best, but their laptops are great! This has lasted me over a year, and I had a previous Dell laptop that lasted about 8 years and still held a charge well!

I agree, thinkpads are the way to go for a basic laptop, and I fully agree with no dell as an ex customer of theirs.

buy dell, as i quoted earlier i have a dell notebook, it is great, and 2bh despite what has been said before, their customer service is rather good providing you communicate via email.

I seem bemused as to how most of your friends computer repairs are dells, as dells policy is to send an engineer out to yourself and not for you to send them your laptop.

The warranty is really good

Gee

Dude at home warantys cost ALOT of money.

If you dont have the money to spend on that upgraded warranty then the policy USUALLY is for you to send it in they do the work and then they return it to you.

The only occasions this is not true is when they replace the unit because they didn't solve it or when they consider the problem to be something that the customer can solve.

IMO Dell has the worse customer serveice and the warranty is far too expensive.

Go for IBM, they are easy to use, reliable and you dont get screwed over if something goes wrong.
