Need a new GPU

Ok, well I need a new vid card to play the few games I do like. And really want to get Bad Company 2 when it comes out :D.

But my computer isn't great. I won't do anything major untill probably May next year, when I can do it right. Right now is just a Pentium D(dual proc) 3.0Ghz, 2gig Ram, yadda. Right now is a 7300Le card, but I never really played many games that required anything great. Aka Modern Warfare1. But it's really starting to hurt now. Wont even play World at War, which I've had since it came out, never got to play it.

Just looking for something to throw into the PCI-E slot that won't cost a bunch of money. Doesn't need to be state of the art. But would like it to play some more modern games obviously.

Thanks guys, I've kinda fallen out of the loop with getting 4 years of Uni out of the way. Ha.

EDIT: Just opened up the case and realized I only have a 300W PSU :'(

That's going to be quite a problem... do you have budget? You might be able to buy both.

I only recommended that setup because i own it. Cheap stuff only backfires when ppl push its limits. Example that Apevia psu with like an 9800gtx+ ha, yea disaster waiting to happen...

If you give a rough budget I/we can recommend something better. I went bare minimum for you.

I've had good luck with Apevia but they're definitely not considered to be high quality.

Anyway, the Xcilio power supplies are the best quality PSU you can get for the price.

Will that Xcilio 500W PSU handle the HD4870 without burning down my appartment? Ha. And what makes the chaper units such junk anyway? Seems like they should be the most no-brainer part of the equation when building a machine. Last time I built one was years ago with a nice corsair PSU... But I had money then..

^ehh cheap components inside i guess, i really havent had any bad experiences with the cheapo psu's but ive heard they dont do well with a lot of load on them, ive never really pushed mine so ive have no problems...

On the 500watt one, i think it could, not the best psu for that card cause that thing is a power hog, i would look at something like a 5570, its about 10 bucks more almost same preformance, and it uses 50watts less on load!

He said it! Not me! Haha. But Yeah, I assume that's what he means. What are the performance differences between that and the 4870?

Is NewEgg loading each page really slow for everyone else, or just me? Everything else loads a lot quicker...

Anyways, let's begin. The 4870 is a more powerful card, but the 5750 features EyeFinity (which you'll probably never even use), and the HD 5xxx Series are the only cards, if I remember correctly, that have DX11 capabilities, it's also not that far performance-wise from the 4870. Really if it were up to me, I'd go with the 5750. Too bad I already bought a 4870... looking back, I really should have waited.
