Alright, i need to upgrade from windows 2000, so im going to buy an operating system. I want to get XP. When i look around for one i see Windows Xp PRO/HOME/Media Center but some say "Retail, OEM, Corp" WHats the difference?

Retail comes with the box and papers and al that jazz

OEM is just the packaged CD, no box and less papers :D

Corporate is you can install it multiple times (i think 10?), instead of just a 1 time deal. They usually cost more.

I'd get XP Professional OEM, retail isn't really worth it.

retail has a longer warranty and "tech support", not something most people need, especially not for $100+ more and it's all at microsoft.com. Media Center is only beneficial for people who primarily use their computers for movies, tv, etc. If your computer is just something you use to check e-mail and do word processing, xp home would be okay, but typically most people shoot for pro.

Yea alright. I think ill get Xp pro Corp. so can install it on all my computers, plus i can charge my friends for installs with my copy:) Thanks for the help

Microsoft doesn't sell Corporate any more. You can purchase a single license and then buy an additional license or go to Open Value Licensing.

Chances are that anyone selling you a corporate key is just screwing you-- you won't be able to get software updates because the key is invalid.

Get Linux. But if you really want windows, maybe get windows media center, cool one if you have a video card you can hook up to the tv cable socket.

... In other words, a TV Tuner.

Yea, i do want to get linux, is there any way to get it free because i know some people are giving there version of linux away for free. Do you have a link?

You can download it for free, burn it to a CD, and install it.

What version do you want, there are like....a million of them lol (not literally)

Also, it's nothing like Windows, hopefully you know more than me about Linux.

Yea i have no idea what version i would want because i have never used linux, and i know not much about it. Is there any version you would recommend?
