need a operating system but confused

hi
ive built a new computer from scratch
and now i need a operating system
i want windows xp 64 bit but i dont know what exactly it is im buying, on the web they say noting about it being a operating system
i just need a link to the basic one thanks?
 
Don't buy XP 64-bit! It basically has no hardware compatibility. If you want a 64-bit operating system you'll have to go vista.
 
I would go to Vista ultimate x64. But, you other guys, have you run windows xp pro x64 or are you just saying other people says. I run xp x64. And it is my main OS. The hardware support is much better. It is the software companies that is making the mess with xp x64. Once windows 7 comes out, next year. I will upgrade to that.
