My computer did not come with a phone jack but I recently got netzero voice which is an online phone service for those who dont know. I do not want to have to run in here and hook up my mic every time I get a phone call so I would like to hook up my cordeless phone instead. I have a spare ethernet port so i was wondering if maybe someone knew of some kind of ethernet to phone jack adaptor or something like that? Or maybe a USB to phone jack?? Anything would be helpful.. thanks!

If your on dialup you can use a splitter with one end plugged into the wall jack and the two leads(one phone, one pc) going into that. A "nik" or "Lan card would be used for something like a residential gateway as it called often or simply put a dsl router. That's where your line is dedicated and logged on at all times for immediate connection whenever you open your browser.

Netzero has some things to know about if you use the free limited access. Apparently there is one file that is something like a browser hijacker that attempts to keep your system logged on even when logging off to allow an incoming phone call. That is with the *70 call waiting disabled to allow incoming calls to break your online connection. Not with this file! On one occasion before going to dsl that one hidden file prevented an emergency call from getting through. You know there's no love for Netzero here!

i do not have phone service at my apartment. all i have is the netzero voice 100 minute thing right now. And i want to hook a normal phone to my computer instead of using the mic and headset... I just dont have a regular phone jack anywhere on my computer and I have cable internet..

The alternative to a regular wall jack would be the usb type phone adapter for the standard input. I don't think you would want a "smart phone" that looks like an oversized calculator although you even watch movies on those. For a look through several types go to http://www.nextag.com/phone-pc-adapter/search-html The link will also have other things mixed in unfortunately.

One usb adapter by D-Link can be seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833127070&ATT=33-127-070&CMP=OTC-17exta6

For a look at some others, http://bonrun.en.alibaba.com/produc...e_and_VoIP_USB_Phones/USB_Phone_Adapters.html

Many services offer internet calls by way of a cell phone. That would be another option if you were on the go. The usb adapter would seem to be the one way to go for a desktop however.

I wonder why they are so pricey...

They are "pricey" as you mentioned due to being part of the newer technology. Once a line of new hardwares has been out for a period of time you will see prices drop. The important when buying any adapter is to match each end correctly. I didn't see the correct adapter with the female not male phone end. The prices there are low cpmpared to other sites.

Another option is to look at a possible internet phone with the usb plug already on it. You can easily find usb to phone adapters later if you decide to go with that idea. Here's one site that carries this type of phone. http://www.amperordirect.com/c/c-internet-phones/index.html

Besides a low cost phone to usb adapter one other item that could be more of you could want is found at http://www.cuphone.com/products/usb_to_rj11/

I was thinking i could just buy a sex changer at radio shack or somehting to take care of that. I saw the thing you linked to at the bottom of your ppost and I actually came across that myself but it is also very pricey. I dont want to spend $40 on a little thing like that so I will just keep searching and see what i come up with.. Thanks for all your help!!

When looking over the adapters seen at the link you posted I found the opposite of what you are looking for. That one would be for going out from a usb port to a phone jack. I don't think surgery on that one would accomplish much there. Another one that also looked close turned out to be for a different shaped usb plug used on oler model printers. Keep looking! But don't get discouraged about RS. They may have one for a better price then seen at those links.
