Need Adaptor

My neighbor wants to share her Wifi with me across the hallway in our apt. bldg. I have a gsx620 all in one. She recommended I purchase a Panda Ultra 150Mbps. So I went to Radiosnatch this morning and the lady said "Oh no, you will need at least a 300 or it will be no good watching YouTube". It cost $39 vs 11.99 for the 150 from amazon. What should I do? Buy the cheaper one and see if it will do?

I would suggest holding off till someone else replies with more information. I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work, but I have never used one.

I say 300 because well it's better than 150mbps.

of course you would only get the 300 depending on devices connected if not mistaken.

amazon didn't have a good review on the EP-N1528, but it was only 1 review.

another site has better reivews, but again I would hold off till someone else replies.

Would you know what type of router your neighbor has? When you say across the hallway are you referring to just like 5 feet away from your door?

other things to consider is the walls that would be in place. IMO I would suggest something else so you can get better signal. In the past I have seen a reply by John with a link to what he recommends, but I am unable to locate at this moment.

thanks for your reply. I didn't buy that one but found another for only $8.49.
I don't know off hand what her router is...she is a private person and I have never been in her apt..I am sure it would be more like 12 feet away from me.

This is a good explanation of what the numbers mean.

N150s are capable of 150mbps. Way faster than what is needed for youtube. The salesperson is probably reading off of a guide that is set by the store. It's fine for videos. The major benefit to going to higher speeds is you are more likely to get higher quality adapters or adapters that can utilize multiple bands, giving you a better connection.

So it's not a bad idea to get an N300 or more. But it is not an absolute necessity for videos.

Edit: Just saw that you don't know what router she has. If she is broadcasting a Wireless G signal instead of an N signal, the network speed (not internet speed) is probably limited to 54Mbps. The difference between a N300 and N150 (at least the way I see it) would really only be the possibility of a higher quality adapter that I mentioned earlier.

If any of that is unclear let me know. I can try to explain it better

ok
I think I get it...we'll see how good it works when it gets here from Hong-Kong
I ordered it form FocalPlace.

I would look into one with an external antenna, where you can place the antenna up high if the signal isn't strong enough to be reliable.

I have an old Linksys router out in the barn and my tablet can connect to it up to just about 150' away.
I doubt that the 12' is going to be much of an issue.

ya, I think we'll be ok...she told me before she got her new comcast hook-up she could almost access our other neighbor almost 100 feet away.
