hi im pretty new to computer building, but i am looking to get a quad core rig so i can play the newer games like crysis, and have a core or two still available to do things like encrypt video at the same time. (i often encrypt and burn dvd's, and attempt to play games at the same time on my hp single core)

i have everything but a mobo, ram and processor. my budget for the three parts is only 450$ US, but my bro insisted that the rig be quad core, upgradeable and have ddr2 memory? im not sure what all of this means exactly but he's the computer nerd not me lol (no offence to anyone here of course :D )

so can anyone help? my bro and i will be building it in about two weeks or so, so i need my parts list fairly quickly...

thx

hi thanks for the fast reply! yes i live in the united states, so that website newegg should be great, i know he uses it all the time.

i have one question, do you know if that heatsink will let me get the processor to 3ghz? i have read around and that seems to be the bread and butter point lol

50/50. Some people have scored a B3 (first stepping) and G0 stepping... there's a 50/50 chance. Overall, ClubIT is reputable and cheaper. I'd go for them... but if you can't go over $450...

well i guess the 450 might possibly be bent to 500, but that would be a definite maximum... the most i can probably spend is 480... yeah lol i guess i can make that the new number, i was only hoping to avoid using all my cash hahaha

so with 480... hmm maybe a little cheaper ram could do? i dont know but the brother mentioned something like 6o-70$ for 2gigs.

also i remember him telling me that my operating system couldnt support more then 3 gigs of memory, so 2 would have to do for now and then ill add two 512's later on if need be

Because you don't have a 32bit OS, you can't [roughly] support over 3.25GB.

The RAM I have has a big rebate, and it's CL4, which means and of that $50-$60 RAM runs 20% slower due to a cas rating of 5.

sorry for the late reply but ok i see what you mean by the cas latency on the ram being so important...in that rig you posted, would buying two of those meet my budget? because i noticed that you said buy 2

When I meant x2, I always include that in the overall cost. I'll do it again if you wish. :) Double checking is always safest.

Ahh... This doesn't look good...

Newegg changed the motherboards price, around $9. Thus...

Total NOW including shipping: $460.61

I'd wait a while. The highest I've seen this board go is $109.99, and the lowest is somewhere around $94.99...

i see thanx oscaryu, so with your build i would end up with a q6600, a gigabyte ds3l board, and 2 gigs of ram? sounds very nice thanx
