Need advice for PSU

Hello,

I'm going to buy a new computer since my old one is getting out-dated.
I've more or less settled for all parts except the PSU, I'm not sure that the one I have in mind will be enough. I've read most of the stickies that gives advices for it. Altho I still have my doubts.

The parts I have in mind is:

Motherboard - M2N-SLI Deluxe

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+

Graphic card - Inno3D GeForce 8600GTS

Hard drive - WD Caviar 4000AAKS, 400GB, SATAII

Memory - Kingston DDR2-667, 2x1024MB, they are on the QVL on Asus site.

Some random DVD burner..

Case - Antec Nine Hundred

And now the the PSU - Chill-Innovation, CP-400P4
http://www.chill-innovation.com/cp400p4-specs.asp

It has high ampere on the 12v rails but I'm not sure the watt is enough, some help here please? =)

I've never heard of that brand PSU, take a look at a Corsair or something, also, 400watts, may not be enough. I'm not an expert on PSU's, so wait for Ceewi1 to help out, he knows his stuff!

Looks ok but with the price of ram I would go ahead and get DDR2 800 and a different P/S something like Antec/Ultra/Corsair/OCZ in the 500W range

Okay, thanks for the replies so far - the thing is that my budget is rather limited so wont upgrade ram.

Now, is there any specific model that you recommend or just any model of the ones listed?

I can not buy from newegg / buy and I have about €750 / $1100, I dont know what currency you guys use ;)

Aprox €60 / $70 (damn to all different currencys!) can be used for PSU, the rest if for.. well the rest of the computer ;)

I'm pretty sure that the Chill-Innovations PSU is a rebadged Shenzhen. Not the best PSUs available, but certainly not the worst either. They're usually reasonably realistically rated, and assuming that this one is as well, it should be capable of handling your system without any problems.

The Antec is without doubt a better PSU, and is most certainly capable of handling your system without issues. A solid choice. Do you have a list of PSUs you can buy with their prices?

That will be a long list.. http://www.shg.biz/produkter/list2.asp?katid=c4676#8244 (Sorry if the page looks a bit wierd but couldn't get a direct link to the page otherwise)

That link will take you to the store I'm buying the other parts from, to the Antec PSU's - if you scroll up and down you will see the rest. Sorry for the different language but I think you can find your way in there :) Most of the terms used are the same as the english ones. 100 of the currency used there is about $14

If you have problems understanding something then just shout, I'd be very glad if you could help me out on this one.

Yeah, it's easy enough to follow. Depending on how much you want to spend, I'd be inclined to grab either the Antec Earthwatts 430W or, my preference, the Corsair VX450W. The Trio 430W is not a bad choice either. All of these PSUs are very good quality, particularly the Corsair, and all will provide ample power for your system.

If my calculations are correct, this is a little more than you're looking to spend, and if that's the case the Antec Earthwatts 380W is also sufficient, although without as much breathing room.

Okay, lets say I get the Corsair VX450W - wouldn't there be issues considering it only have one 12v rail? Or will the high ampere make up for it? Also how stable will it be when it's such high values on one rail?

The number of rails isn't a concern as much as the total power that can be output over all the +12V rails. In the case of the Corsair, it's an impressive 33A.

Stability is not an issue at all. 12V regulation is well within 1%, and ripple only around 20% of what's allowed under ATX specifications. Take a look at the review here: http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=125 for much more info.

Ok, thanks alot for your help - really appreciated. I will most likely get the Corsair PSU since it seems to be good.

Thanks once again!
