Need advice Multimedia laptop

I need advice on buying a laptop for my kid. He's using heavy graphics software like Photo Shop Pro, Maya and unity and will be starting video editing soon. He'll do some gaming as well. What I think I need is:
I7-3720 QM processor, 8 GB DDR3, Nvidia 660m graphic
Is this overkill for his needs or accurate? I have a budget of $1500.

Are those just the specs you're looking for or are those the specs of a laptop you've found?
