Need advice on Gaming desktop

Hello -

I've been looking for a gaming/utility desktop for some time now. I'm not sure if I should get a desktop or a laptop. I would primarily use it for graphics work (PS, Illustrator), 3D Modeling (Maya) and for games. I've looked at Alienware laptops and desktops but most forums suggested getting it assembled. I would like to invest in a good system that would last for at least 3 years.

I am looking to build one from cyberpowerpc.com with the following config:

Build it yourself. That is an outlandish price for a computer. Here's a quick build for you:

2600k ($315)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070

MoBo: ($115)

Nvidia 580: ($465)

Crucial SSD ($122)

WD Black drive 500GB ($58)

Corsair 750w PSU ($110)

DVD burner: ($21)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151235

Gskill 1600 RAM 8GB: ($70)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445

Heatsink ($30)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082

Corsair 600T case ($160)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139007

Acer 1080p monitor 21.5" ($130)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009306

Windows 7 64 bit ($100)

And then mouse, keyboard, which would be around $100, depending on how nice of ones you need.

Total comes to around $1800. Way better price. And you could even switch to a 6950 and take off about $250. That setup would last easily 3 years.
