hi
i am building my firstcomputer and i am having problems selecting the best mother board for $200-$250. thanks alot for any help

the mother board would need to fit and work well with a intel core i5 2500k sandy bridge quadcore processor.

I'm actually in a similar situation, I can't help you too much, but you should answer some of the following questions:

1. What size is your case? Mid/Full tower etc.

2. What RAM do you have DDR/1/2/3

3. What sort of features do you want? Built in graphics, bluetooth, etc.

Also, if you have the new sandy bridge processor you have to go with a motherboard with the LGA 1155 chipset. Also what country are you in, this will change what site we get parts from.

Since I'm in a similar situation if I get an answer in my thread, I'll post it here.

Here is a motherboard I'm currently looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131771

It's not 200-250 but if it fits your needs why bother spending more?

You want a P67 or Z68 chipset? Are you going to be using the 2500k onboard video?

When choosing between the Z68 or P67 the main difference to my knowledge is in a nutshell, the Z68 supports SSD caching as well as overclocking the GPU as well as the CPU (to my knowledge). If you are not interested in either of these things I wouldnt recommend going with a Z68 motherboard. Also SSD caching only applies if you have a SSD or solid state drive.

Don't take what I said above as set in stone fact, I may be incorrect on some points :o

EDIT: Also I should add the Z68 has embedded graphics, where as the P67 doesn't, if you're interested in embedded graphics but not necessarily the bells and whistles of a Z68 board possibly a H67 board is for you...

Was that pointed at me? Is that a statement or question?

The Z68 sorta make the P/H chipsets most or less redundant. It has features of both, plus SSD cache (which you dont have to use even if you have a SSD). So it just a plus. And the prices vs. quality and features vs. the P67 are not all that different.
