hello. im currently looking to ugrade a card in my office build. currently i am running a seasonic 600 watt psu, with a fx 4170, and a gtx 550ti. someone was telling me that my cpu was holding my card back, but i know better than that. i will be gaming on a 720p resolution (1366 x 768)...for now, but may get a diferent screen later. i want it to be a 2 gig card, and more performance than what the 550ti provides, while keeping the budget at $200. i wasa thinking the gtx 480 (1.5gig i know)..the 560 ti 2 gig, the 650 ti 2 gig, or the 7850 2 gig. any other ones are welcome for consideration. thanks for all your help

I would get the 480 if I were you. But the 7850 should be about as fast. Any of those are far more than you need for anything at 720p resolution.

well the 550 ti seems to struggle when i get into flight simulations. i play alot af arial combat games on it, and someone was telling me its my cpu (fx 4170) but i think its the 550ti i am using. besides, i want something that will give me better performance inthese types of games, and i want it to last a while longfer than the 550 ti will. still open to suggestions....thanks for the ones provided already

no, its at the stock 4Ghz. i wouldnt think at this speed that it would be the cpu holding me back. if it is, should i just go with a 8350 8 core cpu. i can get one for $120 if i trade in my current cpu for it. or would getting a better gpu be better. either way, i have $200 to spend to get the pc up to performance where i would like it to be

you have got to remember that sims depend on physics. Even my 2600k @ 4.4GHz has issues with simulations sometimes. I would pin it to your CPU first, as it is easily tested. Bump it to 4.4 ish and try again. If it helps, then its your CPU. If it does not, then you can throw a GPU at it too.

would it help if i were to get a stronger nvidia card, or are physics done on the cpu in simulation games no matter what?

There are not that many games that use physx. Physics is done on the processor. Like I said, try to OC and see what it does. At most you rule something in or out and it cost you $0.00 to try.
