need advice on what to upgrade.

I have an hp pavilion with new mobo and video card, It has 1 gig 533 ram and nvidea 6200, p4. I can play any game out there but the grafix are crappy. i play eq2 mostly. and yeah i dont know if i need better or more ram or just a better card i dont have alot of money so. and how much of a jump is a p4 to a pentium d?
 
I wouldn't recommend a Pentium D, they're crap (as well as the P4). I'm also not sure that the mobo in your computer will support a Pentium D...
 
I know that it will. and p4s are good cpus, just a little old. the pentium d might be slightly better. but any ideas on how to get eq2 to work a little better? would overclocking on a 6200 even be worth it? if so does anyone know how far you can push that card?
 
To be fair graphics card is the thing to upgrade here.

What clock frequency is your CPU?

Your RAM is fine and your CPU is fine I defiantly would suggest a GPU upgrade.

I take it the motherboard is a PCI-e graphics port?

and how much are you willing to spend?
 
3.00 ghz p4 cpu, and yes pci-e. um i dont know if i spend alot on a grafix card will my system be able to run it well. for example the card might out perform my mobo...does that make sence?
 
Your system as a whole is good. However its bottleneck occurs in the 3D dept, as your GPU can't handle intense stuff, unless you went and spent £140+ then I doubt you would even then unbalance the system by bottle necking the Processor etc.

p.s. you can’t out perform you mobo in your case.

Have a look round for maybe a 6600GT which is oldish now but would still be acceptable. I only have a 6600 AGP and it’s acceptable to me.

Or go for a 7600GS which is more expensive. At the end of the day graphics cards are easy to upgrade, and usually see the biggest benefits.
