Need advice with a new build

I'm not too syched about the HDD you chose (ripping videos to HD's can take for ever ... having a fast read/write Hard drive will help a bunch), or the Video card. How long do you think a build like this would remain "a great pc", I think within a year it can be easily out shadowed?

It's within the budget but I don't get why you would need a +$250 case and a 1000W PSU for a multimedia PC

Also, 4GB of RAM is more than enough even in Vista. Also, you can drop about $300 if you get an LGA775 system. If you're not gonna game, no point in getting a top of the line gaming processor/graphics card.

A Q6600 and an HD4850 should suffice for a Multimedia PC. Also get a Blu-Ray drive, I mean he has a big budget.

That's just my 2 cents

Also as to the reason for getting everything so expensive, he says he wants a top of the line system... Maybe Ill get the Antec P182 case instead, its really quite and looks great http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129025

lol It's not a media center PC... it's for media editing and top of the line media editing rigs have high specs like that. :)

When working with graphics, more ram is always better. Photoshop will eat all the ram you have available, especially when working with the newer 50meg pixel cameras.

SSD's are great for super fast read times, but writing to them is no better than a good Hard drive. I would skip on them.

I also love that antec p182, if it goes on sale I am going to scoop one up. But the antec 900 and 1200 are very nice to, just not really my style. I don't like all the pretty lights.

Yeah I like the P182 to...although I want a case that will stand for a long long time... the CM stacker meets those requirements

I'd get more HDD space and a faster HDD :P 10,000 RPM isnt that fast... I also dont think u need an i7 for what its worth atm but if he wants to throw money down the shitter thats fine. Also, I agree that a Q6600 is enough for his needs. 1000W is overkill and case is a waste of money (refer to earlier statement).

Supposedly though the P183 is to be out soon which I think is better for cooling and allow larger PS's
