Need cloning app..

I need a good (Freeware) application that will clone everything from my current laptop HDD to a new (replacement) laptop HDD. I only have one HDD slot on my laptop, so I'll also need to know how I'd go about cloning one to another (most likely an SATA->USB adapter?)

I have a hidden restore partition that I want intact and transferred to the new drive, another partition with Vista and apps on it and another partition with my media files (about 22GB of music).

Can someone with experience doing this recommend an application (freeware) that can do this, and describe the steps required to complete it?

I haven't cloned a HDD in years, usually I just start over fresh and copy my media from the old HDD, but I really want to keep the hidden restore partition that Toshiba pre-installed.

Thanks in advance,

-Michael

I am not aware of any free programs out right now that will help you clone. Norton Ghost is a utility you could use but it is around $30.

re

Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 its not free but i think you can find it somewere over the internet with p2p programs

Bump!

What is everyone using to clone hard drives? My HDD will be delivered today and I need an app. :)

Is this still a widely used program?

Right now, I've got two drives;

Drive 1: 320GB Fujitsu (Vista Home Premium x64 - used daily since January, when I originally made this post)

Drive 2: 250GB Western Digital (Vista Home Premium x86 - used only a few days in January when I got this laptop)

Drive 1's Vista install has become corrupt, and I really have no business using 64bit with only 3GB of RAM so I'm planning to go back to 32bit after fixing Drive 1's OS enough to get my outlook contacts and firefox bookmarks off of it.

I want to clone Drive 2's OS install onto Drive 1 after wiping Drive 1.

It's simple, really.. I'm just making it sound confusing :good:

For best result, get an external HARDWARE RAID enclosure, set to MIRRORING (RAID-1). It will dupiicate the disk including any hidden files.

My budget doesn't call for this, not to mention it sounds pretty unnecessary in my situation. Thank you for the info, though.

Anyone have any input on the program TFT posted?
