Need Codec Help .avi

I am trying to play a .avi file. The movie plays, but there is no sound. it is something that someone sent to me. I have Inter video win DVD codec and ffdshow codec. what can i do to make this work?

That's a Quicktime video format. Do you need it for some other player? If so, I've found the VLC video player to be a very good general use player...

What? AVI is not quicktime format! That's MOV files.

The most common AVI codec is divx. There are hundreds of others, but I'd try that first... Just search for it on google and you'll find the download.

Ok, yeah, sorry wow, it's late, I'm just going to create more problems than fix at this point; so I'm going to take my losses and quite right now... G'night laddies and lassies! (BTW, I almost made about 10 to 15 mistakes in there, man I never thought I'd see the day when 2 AM was waaaay too late... )

I have tried and tried to get *.avi files to play in WMP10, but it just won't work. I don't know what the problem is with, but it refuses to cooperate with me. I would just use DivX, it is a lot easier than fighting with Microsoft programs.
