Hey everyone, I'm new to computer building and am looking to build a computer for graduate school as well as day to day use. Problem is I don't know too much about specs etc. I want a computer that can be expanded so that it will last throughout grad school (3-4 years) without becoming obsolete. I am not a huge gamer but having the capability to play Blizzards games would be a plus minimum specifications would be:
•Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 (Updated with the latest Service Packs) with DirectX® 9.0c
•2.6 GHz Pentium® IV or equivalent AMD Athlon® processor
•128 MB PCIe NVIDIA® GeForce® 6600 GT or ATI Radeon® 9800 PRO video card or better
•12 GB available HD space
•1 GB RAM (1.5 GB required for Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 users)
•DVD-ROM drive
•1024X720 minimum display resolution
I recently visited Tiger Direct and a few other computer stores and was given the following as a possible build that would meet my needs. The problem is that it is slightly out of my budget. I just graduated from college and am looking to keep the cost under $1000 with a monitor and the other accessories. This is the build that was suggested with the price.
Intel i5 2400 CPU (2011 core I series)
Asus P67 Board (B3 Stepping)
2 TB HDD
8 GB RAM (upgradeable up to 16 GB)
Nvidia 550 Ti GPU
with Windows 7 Home Premium x64
$950 dollars pre tax with no monitor.
What would you guys suggest I do to take the price down a bit and still get the computer I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
