Well... I decided to switch from a laptop to a desktop.... mainly because laptops aren't really upgradable after purchase... Anyways here is some information you should know before posting your thoughts;

Budget: $1,000

Computer Usage:
-Graphic Designing
-Music
-Movies/TV
-Games
-School

Requirements:
-Intel Quad-Core 2.4Ghz
-500GIG HDD
-Wireless Card w/ B/G/N Support
-Video Card w/ DirectX 10
-ATX Full Tower Case

So can you guys help me pick out the parts? Don't include monitor, I can probably get one for cheap from work, they get discounts cause they buy in bulk. So $1,000 should be more than enough to build a nice entertainment/media desktop...

I have put the same CPU in.

I recommend my hard drive.

Nice choice on the sound card and the monitor.

I know my build was a little over budget, but it will be good, and you could get less then that as you are going to go through work.

Love the build. I will probably be spending about $1,500 to build this desktop after purchasing mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor, and computer parts... maybe even more... unfortunately I only have $700 at the moment...but I do work part time now since school started... Hopefully I will be able to buy it by the end of October or sooner.

As far as operating system goes, I already have the Ultimate. Got it for $20 at employee discount from a friend.

Maybe by the time I have more money, the price will drop some. :)

Will that RAM work on the motherboard since the motherboard says "DDR2 1200"?

Go with my build, at least you know your getting good quality parts, and that you can upgrade my build in the future, as for dells, you can upgrade very little....
 
In the past I have been able to upgrade dell pretty easily... but it seems like all their video cards are different... and I don't even know if there upgradable...

I will probably make my own desktop for the experience and that way I know what I am getting...

All of that should work in harmony together, ^.^. Can you check and tell me if that is a better build? Although it is more expensive, I figured things like the speakers and sounds card I can do without and just use these basic $30 Logitech speakers and use the built in sound card.

Total: $1721.87

Now if I don't get the speakers or sound card...

Total: $1,439.90

If there is any way to knock off some more money... let me know...but I think that motherboard is better...

Well, i don't recommend DDR3 Ram.

I recommend the Logitech X 540's Speakers - have them, and they are very nice. Also i recommend the Creative Audigy Sound card, around $30.

So yeah, otherwise, very nice

What about the power supply? How much can a 700Watt Power Supply Handle? Cause, I want to just buy the parts and be able to upgrade it...cause by the time I finish I want the following;

Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
Quad Core 2.4GHz
8GB RAM [2x4]
512MB Radeon HD 4870 256bit
2TB [500x4]
Creative X-Fi Extreme-Gamer Sound Card
...along with the additional mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers, CD/DVD drives...possibly blue-ray...

Almost everything I have on the build I made, is a requirement... not the motherboard or memory... but the others is what is a must on my build...

Anyways cohen, thanks for the help... and if you don't mind finding me another build this time with a $1,500 budget... I am not worried about high-performance memory, just something decent... What I am worried about is video card, speed, and sound card.

I don't need a operating system, friends work for Microsoft so I am having them get me the software at employee discount rate. :)

Well yeah maybe a 1000W for what your wanting to do with work.

Also DDR3 is not worth it, because of the cost and you won't know any difference.

Also, i'm glad i can help with anything, i like helping out with computers builds :)
