need CPU info.

My CPU is notoriously slow. I need to get a new one, but I haven't the slightest clue where to start looking. What specs are most important? If you would, list them in order from most important to least; if there's a tie in importance, or if the difference is negligable, list them on the same line, or list them as 1a, 1b, so on (1, of course, being a symbol for most important). Your choice, just be sure to list the entire specsheet of features, please. Thanks.

Hehe if he had a LGA775 socket motherboard he wouldn't be complaining about slow speeds. ;)

We need specs. Motherboard socket, CPU, that kind of stuff.

Okay, I read the CPU 101, and it says that common email and internet surfing is not "CPU-intensive." So tell me: Why is it that when I type a message into this quick reply box, it literally shows me one character per second, and when I pull up the task manager and go to performance, it says my CPU is at 100% of its potential?

I'm fully capable of putting two and two together. I know my CPU is the problem. Don't tell me it isn't.

Was that directed at me?? Doesn't matter, surfing the net and email is NOT CPU intensive. I advise you to run a Anti-virus and Anti-spyware scan, AVG has two free programs that are great for that. Virii and spyware are killers. :/

Can you tell me what program is using 100% CPU usage? If it's the browser then it could mean that it's bogged down. Deleting cache, history and all that can help but i usually just take the lazy route and redownload and install it again. If you're using IE than may i suggest switching to Firefox or Opera? They are faster and safer than IE.

Try ccleaner as well, it will help to clean out all the crap that could be adversely affecting your PC.

(BTW my previous comment was to roncharlespatton. He suggested a Q2d processor and I merely pointed out that you don't have The right Mobo (I guesstimated))

yeah, well, to help us tell you what type of CPU you need, you need to tell us your computer's ram, video card, motherboard, all of those help us decide what is the best option for you, the motherboard more importantly, because we dont even know if its made for intel or for AMD

Actually, it's Opera that is using 98-100% of the CPU. As I pull up the task manager and to to applications, I see opera has a randomly-changing number under the CPU column, changing between 98%, 99%, and 100%.

Ahem, "faster than IE?"

You still haven't told us your system specs mate, we can't help you until you do.
If you don't know what they are download everest.
