Hey all,

Uncle Sam is returning some of my money back to me in a few weeks, and I am looking to build a gaming PC somewhere in the range of $2000.
The build below came in at just over $2000 just using newegg.

I appreciate any feedback as this is my first computer build and I know so little.

Here goes:

-Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz

-ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

-OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

-Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM

-EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3

-bluegears b-Enspirer 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card

-Thermaltake W0106RU 700W Power Supply

-Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders

-SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

* I havent selected a drive yet, but any DVD combo drive would probably do. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!!

Dont take my word for it 100% but I would switch the Q6600 for the E8400
For gaming, it's better to have a fast dual then a slow(er) quad, but if you do a lot more multi-tasking than gaming, get the quad ;)

I agree on the E8400. And I don't think that graphics card is anywhere near worth the ridiculous sum they're asking, but I'm kinda cheap, so who knows.

drop the quad and get the E8400.

drop the raptor and get a 500gb 7200.11 drive. they are almost as fast, lot cheaper and so much more space.

and personally id drop the gtx and get a 8800gts 512. almost as good as the gtx but a lot cheaper.
plus it gives you the option to get another in a few months if you need it.

also id get the x38 motherboard than the p35.

I would get the E8400 for gaming

Don't get the GTX, its not worth the money now that newer, cheaper cards have come out.

With the money saved i would get either a 780i motherboard with dual 8800GT's in SLI or a X38 motherboard with dual 3870's in crossfire.

thanks for the advice. exactly what i want to know.:D i dont do a lot of multitasking, just gaming mostly. it would be nice to save some money on hardware.;)
