Hi there, odd one here,

I have a 1TB PVR Hard drive with the Ext2 File system.

I have installed IFS drives on my win XP system and can now view the partitions.

On the one i have named "X" there is a few folders with very little data that i can access with no problems, there is also a folder called "Images" which contains over 900GB of video which when i try to open, 'my computer' crashes and after about 20 mins i get an error message along the lines of "drive is not formatted"

The drive doesnt need fomatting as the rest of the folders work

and the PC is Pentium 3.2GHz with XP Pro and 2GB Ram

I need some of the video urgently and any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Why struggle trying to get windows to see this partition? Grab a copy of Linux (say Ubuntu) boot to the CD, mount both drives and copy the data. Unless the drive is failing (which you'd still probably have better luck in Linux) everything should copy right over.

i can see the partition okay its just the one folder i cant access, im thinking its because of its size.

presume i will have the same problem on linux,

could it be the hardware? or just because the drive is 100% in use

EDIT/

Also, the drive came from a CCTV DVR and the unit was thrown at a wall, but the drive showed as healthy on the test

The reason I think you are having a problem reading the data is Windows XP cannot read the EXT2 filing system. Use a Linux operating system to transfer all your data from an EXT2 filing system to a NTFS filing system.

I know Windows can also read the FAT16 and FAT32 file formats. But if the data is not in a filing system Windows XP is programmed to read it will not be able to transfer the data you want.

win XP can read EXT2 using IFS drives, all the other folders on that drive i can access with no problems, its just the one folder.

i tried using ubuntu on a boot disk but i still couldnt access that folder on there so i have given up :P

Thanks anyway :)

I installed IFS drives then attempted to access my Linux using Windows XP but was unable to do so. Apparently my Linux is using an EXT3 or EXT4 format. The program doesn't work for EXT3 or EXT4 filing systems.
