Need feedback on gaming rig

Ok I've been saving up for a while and I want a crysis blasting rig. This is my first time building a rig so I don't know that much about it but ppl tell me building you own rig is 5x cheaper so I'll give it a shot. If you see any components that are subpar or will not run crysis (or any other game) on extreme please speak now so I don't have to find out the hard way or if I left anything out please tell me. Please feel free to flame my desicions. Thank You.

First off, your better off ordering This Combo CPU & Mobo. They are the same as you wanted, but it's $60 cheaper.

For a HDD, I'd go with This SATA drive.
 
The 680i is a poor choice of a motherboard. No 45nm, ect. Although the price is amazing, it's still a poor combination. I'd recommend a Q6600 and a P35-DS3L. More futureproof.
 
I do not agree with a Q6600 CPU. You should go with this new 45nm CPU from Intel. E8400. I would go with a P35 chipset if you want to run one GPU. P35 from Gigabyte.
4 gigs of ram wont hurt.
The 8800GT looks good.
I don't know if Ultra PSUs are of good quality. If so, the case/psu combo looks fine.
sata HDD is what you want.
 
Thanks for the feedback JLV. I might upgrade to two GPU in the future so I kinda want my rig to be somewhat future proof. I was planning on ordering it tonight but with some many suggestions I might have to do more research. I usually go on tigerdirect and read the reviews but the ppl on this forum are much more helpful. (Yea i know about newegg but I would like to get my parts all from one site to make things easier). Please keep the suggestions coming. Thanks (Can you link a good sata HDD and cooling?)

Also I know Quad core is better then Dual core but whats this 65nm vs 45nm thing and is it worth the money? Also I would prefer Intel over AMD and NVidia over ATI.

SLi/Crossfire is not worth the money. Upgrading to a SLi motherboard (if it's the 680i) will limit your upgrades on the CPU.

You may disagree on the Q6600, but I think it's a fine choice.
 
SLI and Crossfire is definitely worth the money and the 680i is a stellar chipset. I have the Striker Extreme which does in fact support 45nm duals and quads.

If you ask me, it's better to listen to people that have actually USED the tech as opposed to kids that read something on a website.

I have also heard the same from many other respected members of CF. In fact, I picked this information up from here. Your motherboard may be compatible, but it doesn't seem like the others do.

I find it so funny, I never look at age except when people mention about it. I judge people by the quality of their replies and their knowledge. I can definitively say that in your case Oscaryu, I was sure you were older than me. Anyhow, that doesn't change anything, because I still feel you are a lot more knowledgeable than many members here, including me.

And I agree with Oscar, going SLI or Crossfire isn't worth it. You have to pay a premium for your mobo, for your PSU, you get a more crowded case, more heat. Then, if you're a little green, it consumes more power and will need to be replaced not that long after your single GPU will need to be replaced. There are a few cases where 2 could be considered, but that certainly is not the majority of cases and there is nothing here indicating it is worth recommending.

Go for the best GPU now and upgrade to the next best thing(with the money u saved from buying a 2nd GPU) when your current one wont cut it.

I wouldn't slam an entire line just because EVGA is incompetent. Don't buy an EVGA board. Simple.
 
I'm not sure I'd take high tech advice from a guy that's still using a 7200.

Computers is my business. I just finished building an SLI rig last night. It's using two x1950Pros that, by themselves, wouldn't cut it. Together they're dynamite. It definitely extends the lifespan of a card. It's my spare rig and it's a real mean machine for the money I have invested in it.

At widescreen high resolutions, there's no competition. Max out the AA and AF and then look at the benchmarks. Reviewers don't seem to show those, because it will demolish their premise. An SLI/Crossfire setup under those circumstances will demolish single card solutions.

It's up to you. Take it from those with antique machines, or from people that play with them/build them on a daily basis.
 
Ok....I'm gonna have to postpone my order. I'm gonna look around at other ppls gaming rig threads and do some research then I'll start another thread when I'm ready to order and build my rig. Thanks for the help ppl.

There's nothing wrong with the 680i if you plan on running SLi in the future. Look at the X38 chipset if you would like to run Crossfire. It's true that the eVGA 680i does not support the Yorkfield (45nm Quad) processors. It does support the Wolfdales' (45nm Dual).

Asus has (I think) released a BIOS update that will allow you to run a Yorkfield CPU on the Striker Extreme. Instead of the eVGA model, you might consider the Striker Extreme if you want to run SLi.
