Need files from hard drive

I need to do a clean install on a PC. This PC is not accessible. Is there a way to get the excel or word docs off the hard drive? I can remove the hard drive and connect it usb to another PC.

You just answered your own question... Doesn't have to be usb though, you can connect it using sata power and data cable. Depending on where files are located you may need to take ownership of them before being able to view and transfer them.
 
Thanks John. I got it. I put the files on in a folder on the PC I used to connect the hard drive.

I have a question. I am transferring the folder to a thumb drive. The folder 1.8G.
It saying it will take 20 hours to complete. Is this normal, or am I not doing this right. I dragged the folder from the desktop to the usb stick in order to transfer back to the original PC.


I guess its ability to determine how long it will take needs improvement. It just finished. Took about 2 hrs. They were all pictures in this particular file that I was transferring.
