Need for Speed: Shift

Care to show us some screenshots to show what you mean by 'it doesn't look great'?

We can compare shots & you'll be able to see if somethings up.
 
Looks like motion blur to me

I use the 3rd person cam personally so that doesn't bother me.

Turn off motion blur, it may also improve some of your fps. You'll still have a blurred cockpit but the outside track will be crisp. I know thats the wrong way round. No idea why EA did that but yeah...

Here's a shot I've just got, I decided to have a play earlier too.

The games is awesome IMO the best racing game I have played. I'm a little disappointed that my 4850 doesn't handle this game better I get an average of 45fps and it dips below 30fps pretty often. All my settings are on medium with 2xAA and my res is 1280x1024 thinking about changing a couple thing to low then see how it does.

Ah good you have a 4850 too.

I've just completed Tier 3 and quite a few of the Invitational events.

Just started the supercar series on the Donnigton course I think.

My E5200 bottlenecks my 4850, I used to have a Q6600 and got much better frame rates in other games which I can now no longer play as well.

I play at 1680 x 1050 2AA 16AF cos 1920 x 1200 looks worse without AA, with AA it lags too bad.

Anyway I started the Supercar Championship and my frames are rediculous now, between 12 & 18 at the start which makes the game unplayable.

I'm gonna pick up a quad in a few days see how much better my fps gets. I recon it'll be quite a bit better.

Anyway I like to play my games at 1920 x 1200 4AA 16AF, I have a 26" Monitor so even at that res 2AA still doesn't look great like it would on a 24" Native.

If I need to upgrade GPU to acheive what I want, which I think I will cos my card can't really keep up with the newer games well, not sure if its because of the bottleneck but I'll find out soon.

I'll either go Crossfire an get another 4850, although I've heard many horror stories.

OR

Just pick up a 4890. Maybe a GTX275 if I can find one cheap as I'm not too keen on ATi's drivers.

I'll make a thread about it soon :D

1680 x 1050 2AA 16AF pretty well (up till supercar championship)

You have the same card and a Triple core?

There's something strange there....

I also think there is something up I think there is a bottleneck in my system but I have no idea what I't could be. My card is even clocked higher then your. I have been suspecting a problem for a while now still not sure what it could be.
 
I just changed all my settings to high with motion blur off. Here are the results.

Looks like there is little to no fps different between settings. The whole time it never dipped below 30fps and was always between 35-45fps.
 
Fully maxed out, with 8xAA, i get an average of 40-50 fps at 1680x1050.
Need to turn motion blur off though. Can see shit out the rearview mirror at high speeds.

I'm wondering how you'd do at higher resolutions.

yeah f.i.t.h I'm hoping to get at least 1920 x 1200 2AA 16AF at least when I re-upgrade to a quad, eliminating my bottleneck.

After that I think It'll be a card upgrade job for me either by adding or replacing my card, I would go for i7 and next gen, but I don't really have the NEED or cash for that type of power yet. Although I know its time will come, probably when its old tech :P

One other thing I like about shift is its not the usually Crappy half arsed 6/8 hour miserable gameplay experience.

Its fun all the way through, you can keep playing for ages, I've tallied up 15 hours so far and I'm still at Level 29/50
 
what's the gameplay like?
can u customize teh cars like in gran turismo?
or is it balls out racing like Grid?

The gameplay is pretty good kinda like a cross between street racing and circuit racing. The cars aren't really Customizable you can upgrade the performance there are 3 levels of performance. Then you can upgrade the body kit and such. You can choose your own paint and Vinyls.
