Need For Speed: Undercover - Framerate

When I play NFS Undercover, I get a terrible frame-rate. It's so slow it goes bit by bit by bit. I cant understand why though?

Here's my computers specs:

DualCore Intel Pentium D 950, 3400 MHz (17 x 200)
3Gb of DDR2 RAM
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Editon (SP 3)
GPU: Nvidia GeFore 7300 GS (512mb)

And the required specs for the game are:
Processor: 3ghz or faster (pentium 4 or equivalent)
Ram: 512mb
Videocard: 128mb
And it also says, Suported chipsets: GeForce 6600 or better

Can you help me work this out please?

at what resolution are you running it at? and at what setting? i have a 9600gt and i play it at max settings (1280x1024), only very occasionally would i get a skip in the gameplay. i fair at 45 to 75. just something for u to compare with :)

The 7300 GS isn't very powerful, so the game won't run smoothly if the settings are high. Despite having 512Mb of memory, the card isn't very good for playing games with high settings as the memory is most likely slower than that in more expensive and powerful video cards. The amount of memory doesn't say everything about a card's performance.

When I play with all settings set on high and everything on its highest, at a resolution of 1280x1024 it is terribly slow. Im not sure what the frame-rate is but "It'll drive you to suicide"

When I play on everything on its lowest, I sometimes have a good frame rate, but then it will go very slow for about a mintute or two, and then it will speed up again for a while.

I have the latest drivers for my card (185. or something)

Do you have any advice on what to do? Probably to get a new GPU right?

Ah.. I've already been looking at getting a new CPU. Got one in mind.
And for the GPU i was thinking a GTS 250? Will that run this game fine? And will it also run GTA IV?

BTW, my current PSU is a mere 250W. That won't run any of this, will it?

A completely new system seems like the best way in my opinion. The GTX 250 is basically the same as the 9800GTX+, though the GTX 250 is a bit faster than the 9800GTX+ in most reviews I've seen. My system can run GTAIV with almost everything on High, except for texture which is set to Medium, at 1680*1050 and it's smooth pretty much all the time. So pretty much any decent system newer than my 1-year old rig should suffice.
