Hey guys i need a program to protect my computer from hackers and from viruses because i had a problem with hackers a while back and they ended up frying up my old computer so when i bought my new computer i bought MacAfee firewall and anti virus but now my anti virus is like expired so i need a free and good antivirus program with anti hacker (firewall)

Thanks

ye zonealarm is a good firewall it's has easy user interface and for AV avast or avira will do

but i had experience with zonealarm it's true vector service fails or has some problem realting true vector

still it's a good firewall

Here is a list of alternatives that you may want to consider. :)

Firewall
Zonealarm - http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html
COMODO - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
(apparently COMODO has a separate Anti-Virus that you can download free but I am not sure about the quality of it though.)

Anti-Virus
AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0
Avira - http://www.free-av.com/
Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html (dnload link is all the way at the bottom)

Anti-Spyware (just in case you need it)
Spybot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
AVG Anti-Spyware - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0
Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Ad-Aware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-20...045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
(you can have more than one anti spyware program in your computer)

Hope this helps. :)

Comodo is a firewall as well, and two software firewalls working in tandem can cause problems. It's fine to turn the windows firewall off.

I believe its more of a preference. I personally have only tried AVG and they work pretty good. I have no idea about Avast or Avira. But judging from other people's comment on them, they are good antivirus as well.

So what I would suggest is try out three of them (not at the same time of course) and see which one you prefer best ie. in terms of interface, user-friendliness, frequentness of the update, features, etc., etc.

I would suggest Avira but everyone has there preferances.

EDIT: I didnt see the post above me (about preferances)

Go for Zone alarm. It has got a very good firewall protection. For the antivirus i don't think it provides this protection but you can try Norton for this purpose. Hope it helps you .

Are you being Hunted by Hackers What did you do XD... It dont matter what kind of Anti-Virus or firewall you got.. if a Hacker wants to Mess your system up the hacker will disable your firewall and Anti-Virus in a Blink of an Eye.. thats only if your being hunted..
I would recommend a Port Monitoring tool like <ProPort> to check if a hacker is Monitoring your Computer and if you find something Unplug your machine and get a new ip address.

Just to help you out Windows Has Open ports on 500-600 its where windows does its regular windows update thats where I mostly strike though.

many people have problems with norton it takes all your memory and slows down comp a lot

if you want buy a software go for NOD32

and in free avast avira avg

If you gonna use these Anti-viruse Programs, dont because the common viruses are made to withstand and bypass Common Antivirus Programs like the obove and many others. Thats a fact.

I don't think the common virus' do, if they did I wouldn't be able to catch so many of them. I know that there are some that can hide from antivirus programs, but they need to be programmed for each specific one if they want to avoid them all i believe. Even then it's sometimes as simple as renaming the program so they virus doesn't recognize what it is.
