hey guys

Im a bit a of a newbie when it comes to computers but i need to get my self a computer that will be good for video digital editing and dvd burning. Now i dont want to just go to harvy norman or anything like that. I would like to build one my self as i know how to put a computer together and prefer to go buy the parts from the computer fair or store.

The thing is I dont know to much about the good parts and the bad one.

Can someone please help with what parts i need and how much they would cost

Im From Austrlia so If you can link me to a site where they sell the parts i can try find them in Australia.

I was looking at spending around $1000 USD for a budget one
But i can save up more and say spend around $4000 USD for one but for that much i would like it to be alot better

cheers

Well, If it's for video editing and DVD burning, then an Intel Core 2 Duo would be a great option, something like an E6600 or an E6700 would be great!

2GB or some Corsair XMS2 RAM will be good, as you'll be running some intensive programs.

If you're into gaming, then a nVidea 8800 would be good, it supports DX10 so if you ever wanted to get Vista you'd be Ok.

Agree with post above, and if your doing video editing a big hard drive would be good, a WD/Maxtor/Seagate SATA hard drive... maybe 200GB?

Core 2 Duo is a good option, as with the AMD Quad

www.msy.com.au offers great prices, provided they have a store near you. www.staticice.com.au is a superb site which searches for the best prices on a variety of computer components. Is your $1000 for just the box, or do you need software, monitor, etc... included in that price.
