i had another board from february found here;
http://www.computerforum.com/74175-how-do-i-make-my-computer-faster-pleasee-help-2.html

Almost everything you need to know can he found there, the only unanswered question was if i had free memory sloths, How do i check if i do? If you take a look at my other thread and can suggest what memory card i can buy i'd really appreciate that. :) Any other suggestions would help, im a computer "noob" i can only do basic things. Also i have a another question. What do graphic cards do? Do they make videos played on your computer better or is it meant for gamers? I watch movies on my computer very often and was J/W
One last thing im looking to upgrade my monitor, do you happen to know the best(as in clearness) that i can buy for under $200?

ram = memory.... hard drive = storage space. ram will make your computer faster... its easy to check for open slots. if you open up your computer and look at the mobo i'm assuming that you'll have two sticks of 256 or else one 512 so if you go to newegg and look at pictures of mobos just to get a feel for the layout of them you should be able to look and see if there are open slots on yours... what type of motherboard do you have?

so ram is basically another way to say memory? o_o
i have no idea what type of motherboard i have sorry, can any sticks of memory work? does it have to be a specific type?

You have to get a specific type. From your other thread you have PC3200, but I can't find the specifications from Dell for a D3000. The next easiest way is to just open the side panel and look for them.

They look like this, there might be 2, 3 or 4 slots.

is that the sloth where my soundcard+modem is plugged in or somewhere else? Ill open it later can you tell me exactly what i should be looking for?

No, RAM does not use the same slot as a sound card or modem, it has it's own slot.

Download CPU-Z from www.cpuid.org, click on the "Memory" tab, and tell us what it says.

He's done that in the other thread :)

He's got at least 1 stick of PC3200 but it's running at 166MHz instead of 200MHz.

It's not really a problem. All it means is for some reason your RAM is running slower than it can. I don't know why though. At first I thought it was because your CPU has a 133MHz FSB (533MHz QDR) but that still doesn't add up right. You might have RAM with mixed speeds or maybe all the slots are full and the BIOS has automatically downclocked the RAM 1 step from the max it can run at.
