Need help choosing a graphics card

I'm considering building a new computer for the summer, and am currently stuck choosing between an AMD-ATI 2900XT and a Nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB. The 2900 costs $30 more, but that's really no object to me. So price aside, which card is better? Both are made by ASUS, and I plan to get Windows Vista as well, if those things make a difference.

Also, in general, which company makes better DX10 cards, ATI, or Nvidia? Does either company have (more) stable drivers?

Thanks.

I would go nvidia since their drivers for vista have been longer than the ones from ati, apart that the performance is pretty similar

You should take power consumption into consideration as well, google the cards and see how much juice they suck you.

Alright, 2 recommendations for Nvidia is enough for me, I'll stick with them. Thanks for the help!

Nvidia may be slightly less power hungry.. But i guess i'm the only one that thinks they HD 2900xt is the better choice. The potential for the 2900 to evolve into something bigger and better is just too much for me.

Personally i would go a 2900xt, You've probably already bought the 8800, I know, just making my opinion known. :D

i have allways been been an ati man. i just sold my x1950pro xe for my first nvidia dx10 evga 8800gts 320mb. check out my sig. thats what i am running... the only game i cannot max out at 1650 resolution is lost planet dx10 demo, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and ARMA. but i get around 60 to 80 frames in cod2... so i would check out at least a 8800gts... and as much as i still love ati, there just not the best when it comes to a multi gpu solution, or dx10

Call of duty 2 is a pretty outdated game. I think it would take games like Supreme commander or FEAR or maybe Crysis to stress an 8800GTS.
