Need help choosing a high end graphics card

I need help choosing a high end graphics card for gaming. Which is best card I can get for $499? Does anyone know? Currently I'm looking at the GTX 670 FTW.
 
What about the Radeon 7870 GHz edition? How would it stack up against that? I am having a bit of difficulty choosing between AMD and Nvidia.

you can get a 7970GE for less and about the same performance, only diff will be higher power draw.

What is the rest of your system? mainly being the power supply, good chance you will need a different one since most people just grab the cheapest thing with 500w or whatever scribbled on it

cheapest 680 and there are cheaper 7970ghz's, the gigabyte would be ok for 450 and no rebate but don't think i'd trust the visiontek for 430
