need help chosing a video card

Or just get a DirectX 11 card. The 5750 is a ok card. Performance is about the same as a 4850/GTS 250

What is it that i look for in a card?
i noticed tat the memory was lower in the better card.

what are some key things to look for?
 
Amount of memory makes only a small difference. A 512MB 4870 and a 1024MB 4870 would perform almost the same with the 1024MB card being maybe 5-10% faster.

Memory bus width, amount of stream processors (Note that ATi and NVIDIA have completely different implementations) and kind of RAM. Most midrange cards use GDDR3, highend ones generally use GDDR5.

Generally speaking when comparing two models of the same generation and brand, the higher model wins out, comparing brand to brand requires looking up benchmarks because you cant compare a 4870 with 800 stream processors to a GTX260 with 192 or 216, they're about equal because of completely different implementations.
 
is there a standard or advantage to go by? for future refrence? i saw the one on this forum. but it seem like it would be outdated since it was back in 2005
