I aquired an old dell optiplex gx1 500m+ and it's got a pentium 3 with 256 ram and a 6gb(ha) hd, and an hp cdrw and plain cd drive. now i have an even older compaq presario 7100 series that had 256 ram and a memorex cdrw drive and a 30gb hd. i took the 256 out of the compaq and put it in the dell and that works fine. i also put the compaq hd in and plugged it in by itself and it boots up fine. if i unplug it then the dell hd boots up. i tried to wire the hd's together and it didn't recognize either of them. but when i wired the two cd drives together it did recognize them. so the only way it seems to want to work is if the dell hd is the slave and the cd drive is the master, or if the compaq hd is by itself. i tried all kinds of configurations but none work except the two i described above. i've tinkered with computers before but i've never tried to do this. so any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
