Need help deciding what PC to get... asus or hp.

Hi,
I want to get a new desktop. I really dont know that much so I came here for help.
I want one thats reliable. I was gonna get a workstation but decided to go with a consumer kind.

I will do artwork (photoshop, Zbrush), video editing, and some gaming. Mainly APB and Aion. And I would do all this for hours on end.

I was looking at The HP pavillion elite 380t.

- Is it an all around good pc for what Im looking for?
I wonder if this is a good choice. I think Asus might make a better desktop.
And I like the quality of their monitors. Would it have better cooling too?

Are asus desktops a good choice? Which do you think is better for my needs?
 
^ Asus do make desktops, but I think Best Buy is the only place that sells them. They aren't even on the Asus website. They appear to be decent though...they use Delta power supplies instead of the usual Bestec, and the mobos have solid caps on the important bits.

I second a self-build, though. You're going to want something more reliable than a store-bought computer for this.

I guess you cant buy them there, I have no idea why. I couldnt find a option to buy one.
How is the hp desktop I am looking at, is it a good one?

And I dont know how to build my own desktop, it would be easier for me to just buy one from a company. But since 2 of you recommend it, how do I go about doing that?
I would still like to know if that HP is pretty good..
 
Im gonna go with a custom build, I dont know if thats any different.

And whats better about building a PC, will it cost less?
 
What is your budget?
I recommend you have a look at company like cyberpowerpc/ ibuypower
Since you are doing a bit of artwork, Phenom IIx6 1055T would be a good choice. Video card probably go for GTS 450/ GTX 460, depends on budget.
 
Phenom II is one of the line from AMD.

Since I know how to assembly PC, I haven't been buying off from shelf, and thus I have no idea for their customer service. However, those company I mentioned do customised PC and tell you exactly what they are put in, so it would be easiler for upgrade in future.

With $1500, budget, you can either go for core i7 950, or Phenom II x6 1055T for your use. core i7 will be faster, but more expensive.
 
I checked, Ibuypower isnt that great.
Can anyone tell me about desktop models, whats the difference in prices... for example, whats the difference between a one that costs 949, and another for 1,099. Same company, same name for the PC, but its number is higher in the name, its the next model in line.

What makes it cost more? Whats inside of it? Is the PC itself built better, or is the price only raised for what comes inside of it?
