need help deciding which manufacturer to use

I've got less than 3 weeks to decide which pc I want. My mom is buying me one and she told me I can only spend $3,500 on it. I've been reading post and info all day today and have gotten a little close to deciding. Firstly, I do not want to build my own pc because it would take me so long to decide on certain items. Secondly, I don't want to buy a Dell or Velocity pc. I like to use Tivo, play occasional games, office professional, and quite a bit of multimedia functions. Here's the items I've picked out:
AMD or Intel Pentium 4 -Dual
Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT video card
3.5 floppy
Audigy 2 ZS sound card

I am confused about the hard drive options. Is it better to get two hard drives or one large hard drive? Also, is SLI mainstream or has it just recently been released. I know that isn't much. I definitely want more than 512 for my memory. Another important aspect is that it has to be upgradeable.

The brands I've seen and haven't ruled out are ABS, Sony, Monarch, ZTgroup, Voodoo, alienware, acer, and hypersonic. I know that some of these groups specialize in gaming pcs but that's why I like them because they would seem to run generally faster.

My friend said that AMD has a advantage to intel because AMD will be able to run 64bit OS like the new windows but intel can't. Could anyone explain that to me? Thanks for any advice. Other manufacturers are also welcomed.

They have a Intel 64bit out right? I could get 512MB(definatly DDR) RAM on one stick so that way you can upgreade it too 1GIG of ram later and easier. :)

And for the CPU, My opinion would depend on how opfeten" the ocasion" games are, and if they are ussaly the newest ones.

I don't think I would play the newest ones. I would play counter strike, the doom series, stuff like that.

I'm down to these companies:
Sony, ABS, Alienware, Hypersonic, HP, and Dell. I'm running out of options. I've heard horror stories about Dell and Alienware. Although if I was going to go with one I might go with Alienware. I do fall for the cool design trap. I also need a laptop. I am completely unknowledgeable on laptops. I know I will need internet and play some games and watch dvds on both the laptop and desktop. I don't like how most of these systems have doors you have to open.

imo $3500 is stupidly overkill

So ask here and we can decide for you

have a look at the HDD 101

also, is sli mainstream or has it just recently been released
its old but its still a premium product

read the RAM 101.

Your friend has old information. Intel has 64bit capabilities

I just would not prefer to build my own pc for warranty reasons. I'm sure I can get a decent pc for $3,500. I'm just not sure what company to go with.

Cyberpower is cheap... Or get an emachines and upgrade. If you're unsure about cyberpower, check out monarch. If you want better go to velocity micro, hypersonic, ibuypower, overdrive, voodoo, alienware, and falcon northwest.

Since you have your mind set on not building it, I would strongly suggest an alienware. For that much cash, you can get a nice system through them...1 gig of ram will be more then sufficient IMO...I say alienware because, since you have taht much money you can afford it, and they are incredibly cool looking ;)

A few things:
1. 1Tb isnt that much. Even a 1TB isnt all that much
2. 4GB of RAM .... right. ;)
3. A 40" plasma screen costs more thqan $3500
