That motherboard has the Q43 chipset, and one PCIe 1.1 slot. Sims 3 requires SM2, which is nothing major.

This card, is low profile and would suit perfectly. Its a 7750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002

At around $100 it would be a low power requirement, snappy little video card which will make the most of the game, without overkill for what is already there.

Something a bit cheaper? A GT430 would do the job at $67 as well - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139076R

Two things..

Make sure the PSU is sufficient - a quality 400W would be fine - need 26A on the 12V rail minimum, and ensure the computer is dust free with good ventilation. Also, do a clean install of the drivers and update Direct X, the Windows updates and the game.

Is it possible to return it?

I google the machine, it is will SFF case and looks like to be a non-standard 240W PSU.

I don't know if you want to risk it with adding 7750 /6570

To play it safe, new case + new PSU + new video card. But this cost too much.
She should have go for standard case
 
Aren't the computer's current graphics capable of running the game? I mean let's face it the sims 3 are not exactly crysis, I played them on a 8400 gs and a 4250m with no problems and they're very weak vid cards.

Haha I told her to wait so we could pick out a pc while I was over there to explain but she's old and persistant. So I recommended a veery low profile card, would this work?

Well this isn't for me this is for my aunt and i got her addicted to the sims 3 haha. So i told her for her birthday that if she got the pc and the video (mainly so she can on play the sims 3) that i would put the video card in and get her pc up to par
