Hi i just built my first computer im having some problems. wanted to try and see if anyone could help,
specs are
motherboard - msi 870A-g54
video card sapphire radeon hd 6770
ram 4gb crucial ram
cd drive, old cd drive from 2004ish dell desktop
hard drive - took apart an external seagate 320gb hard drive ssd size and using that.

my friend gave me his 64bit windows install disk

now the problem is, when i boot i get the error, "invalid system disk, replace and press any key" or close to that,

i went to bios did boot from disk, then it goes "active partition not found! press any key"

then hit a key and back to "invalid system disk, replace then press any key"

sorry this is so long any help would be great

I believe so I have the usb attachment and plug it into my laptop and my laptop can read it., I mean I have the 80gb hd from the old dell and if that would work id be willing to use that in the meantime but would it affect the performance at all?

Sorry I misread your first post! I've never tried it, but it should be possible.

BUT you shouldn't even try installing your OS on a USB drive. USB is extremely slow compared to IDE, or SATA... extremely!
So yes, if you can connect your old drive (either IDE or SATA, whichever it is), you should try installing the OS then.
