Only 256 ram? thats not enough.. windows xp using like 220ram just to run... he needs 512 if he's going to be ripping music and what not... :D

ok i think i do need at least 512 mb but looking at all these memory (sticks?) is confusing me. PC2100? PC3200(DDR2-400)??? im not sure what one to get.

Don't forger arctic silver 5 thermal compound or windows if needed. i would say to get cheaper value ram or if not, get ocz ram, which is cheaper and better. Good for overclocking they are. ALso instead of X800pro, get a 6800vanilla from newegg.com, evga, $200 after rebates.

I don't know, do you?

Definitely bump that up to a 512MB stick. Realistically the case shouldnt be the 1st thing on a list unless you're building for looks....

Thats wierd, the steady rating is significantly lower than the peak

ok so this is what i have so far....
Uh well what you have is $800 which is outside of the budget

My budget is only around 750$.
- AMD Athlon64 3000+ Venice [ADA3000DAA4BP, $145]
- Chaintech VNF4/Ultra [$85]
- Corsair ValueSelect 2x512 [CL2.5, $90]
- NEC3540 [$40]
- WD 160GB [8MB, $80]
- Xclio 450W [12V@32A. $50]
- GeForce 6600GT [$145]
Subtotal = $635
In any case, better motherboard, better optical, more suitable VC and RAM with room to maneuver for case/VC
