Need help getting a new graphics card

Hello, i'm really new to this and even newer to trying to get a better graphics card and seeing what is compatible with my system. instead of going to get it repaired i decided i'd like to give this a try and get information to try to figure this out on my own - with help of course.

after a couple of years of playing games online my graphics card started making noises and after a couple of days later it completly died. i have a - ATI Radeon HD 5670 - http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/ati-radeon-hd-5670-overview/Pages/ati-radeon-hd-5670-overview.aspx i tracked down my card to their site and decided to get a better one. i need help figuring out which other card would be best/compatible with my system.

What exact model of power supply do you have? Do you have a store bought or custom built pc?

unfortunately it's a store bought Alienware, i know they're bad though it was a gift and since i don't know how to build one. it's the next best thing for me.

it's a - MS - 7591
and i think a - 1 x 8-pin ATX 12V Power connector

i'm not entirey sure if this answeres your question.

Seems like the 12v is not only split by 2, but by 5. That means that every rail only has a max from 165W...
Quality PSUs only have 1 rail. But Idk what these A,B,c,... mean, because I've seen some PSU split in so many 12V rails.
Anyway, to be sure of it, I won't buy a card using over 160W.

$300 or less would be great, thank you for your recommendation

any other recommendation out there for ideal cards? if not, then where could i get a good price for the R9 270 graphics card?

first off, get rid of that psu. using a high end card could damage your system, as it is split, not a single rail. That means your truly not getting that whole 800+ watts. you can get a quality psu (corsair, xfx) for under 100 bucks these days. It's by far the most critical component imo. As far as cards, I think a gtx 760ti would be better suited, Im not a big fan of amd drivers, i used to have two 6990 and it was very bad. hope this helps

thank you guys for your help, i'll look into getting a new psu well suited to my system though that's another challenge in itself. i've also looked into those cards, the MSI Radeon R9 280X was quite expensive, over my budget actually. i'll also look int the gtx 760ti and the other one mentioned.

another problem i had was looking for a decent place to buy them from.
