ok so i just got this new computer. Ive formatted the HDD and installed windows home edition.

Basically i need to get my internet going. Wen i first tried the internet last nite before i formatted it, i just plugged in the Ethernet cable and hey presto i was connected.

But now i plug it in nothing happens. And when i try and install BT software (thought it cud help) it comes up 'Cant find an active ethernet connection'

The motherboard is Asus A8N SLi Deluxe

Ive downloaded the latest nvidia drivers, plus i just installed Microsoft SP2. And ive also installed some Asus Marvell drivers. ( I think these are the ethernet drivers i need but nothing has worked )

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOM1 HELP ME, I urgently need to get this working now.

Thx in advance to any1 who can help me :)

You may want to try the add new hardware wizard found in the control panel to manually select the type of device you are trying to install. Windows will then prompt for the drivers or install them automatically. Look in the device manager to make sure nothing there has yellow marks. The latest drivers, bios updates, and utilities for that model board can be found at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

ye ive bin on here, and downloaded wot i thought was an ethernet driver. Im gona install anything that resembles Ethernet.

In my device manager i havent even got a section called Network adapters, like on my old computer

You would first go into the control panel to the "add new hardware" wizard to select the type of device you are adding to the system. Windows will then ask where the needed drivers are. You then browse to the location where the correct drivers are saved. After Windows copies and installs them(if everything goes well that is  ) you can go back into the device manager to look for the listing. You shouldn't have any problem finding the new item.
