hey guys
i cant get my second monitor to work properly. i bought i Y splitter cable for the monitors(DVI) so they both go into one port on the back of the computer. im trying to set it so the monitor are different and i can have different stuff on each screen, but at the moment they are just mirroring each other. it knows the other screen is there because in properties it says : display (default monitor) on. i have ultramon (trial thing) and when i started it up it says there was a compatibility problem or somethings
can someone help me please

p.s. ones flat and the other a CRT

If you want a continual display across two screens you need a video card with two DVI outputs (pretty much all video cards above $60). Flat vs CRT shouldn't make a difference. Just buy a video card and set up a multimonitor setup in NVidia Control Panel or in ATi CCC.

Yeah I'm almost positive it's the splitter. I just assumed you only had one video output since you were using a splitter. Try and get a VGA adapter and see if you have the same problem. Just hook both monitors up, boot up the computer and set up the multimonitor display properties in the NVidia Control Panel.

you cant make a Y Splitter show different things on each monitor. it just "splits" the one image.

If you buy an adaptor you can set it up for dual monitors in windows as it should recognise both monitors.

still having the same problem now i have the adapter :( i can't change the default monitor so i cant select the setting for both screens
please help

Right click on the desktop > Go to NVIDIA Control Panel > Select "Set Up Multiple Displays" under "Display" tab on the left

If I remember right, there should be 3 options and you want the last option. I can't double check on that, sorry, I don't have my second monitor anymore so the option isn't up :/
