Need help in determining a good gaming PC

Ok, so Diablo 3 just came out and my current computer does not play it. I figured this much since it is about 6-7 years old now....and it is a Mac. I have been a mac owner all my life (yes, I know what your thinking), but am now wanting to get a decent PC strictly for gamming. The only game I really play is Diablo and have not really expanded passed that, since not a lot of games play on mac.

I have been looking around at PCs at sites like TigerDirect.com and all these stats about the computers are a foreign language to me. I know the basics, but I can't tell which is a good graphics card or anything like that. I don't want to pay a bunch of money, but I do want a PC that will allow me to enjoy the full potential of Diablo.

For example: I found this PC on that tigerdirect website. Can any of you experts tell me if a graphics card and processor such as this one would be sufficient for what I would like to do.

You'd be better off building a machine yourself. That graphics card is really weak, probably one of the worst ones you can get - it's not for gaming! I'll spec you a build later but I'm a bit busy right now.
 
Yeah, the weakest nvidia card of 2011. Build your own! Its so easy, nobody understands and they pick "Gaming" junk like that.
 
Ok thanks guys, I will research building my own machine. I have other friends tell me it is easier than I think so maybe it is time to give it a try.
 
Yeah it is very easy. Gimme a couple of hours and I'll have a build up for you hopefully. How much do you want to spend??
 
I probably don't want to go much more than $700-$800 for the computer itself. Hopefully and can get some good stuff for that price. I will get the display and keyboard and mouse later.
 
Right ok then I will bear that in mind when I configure you a build. For 800 bucks you should be able to build yourself a nice PC. )
 
 
Russ' build is good, but I'd advise spending less on the motherboard and then getting a better graphics card with the money you saved.

Get this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767 and this graphics card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521 and that would give you better performance.

If you want to build an entirely new system, then an X650 PSU is good, but you can save money on the PSU by going for a Corsair TX650 instead. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020

I'd get the FX-6100 over the 4100, but I think the OP already has a CPU?
 
You don't need more than quad core to game. Besides, each of the FX series cpus are unlocked so there's not much reason to pay for extra cores you probably won't use.
 
Thanks vistakid. I was looking at better graphics cards last night. I think I will spend less on the mother board and buy a good graphics card. That is essentially the component I want to be the best (for the money I can spend).

Oh and what do you mean by "the OP already has a CPU?" What is the OP? Sorry, but I don't know the shorthand for this kind of stuff. I know what CPU is though.

I agree, but I'd still go for the 6100. The quad-core FX chips aren't brilliant, they get beaten by the previous generation Phenom II X4 chips at stock speeds, admittedly the FX chips do overclock better than the Phenom II X4s though. The hex-cores are meant to be a little better than the FX quads though, and as the hex-cores FX CPUs are pretty cheap, why not get one? And the hex-cores overclock just as well as the quad-cores.

I'd go for a 6100 if you must have an AMD chip.

Sorry, another user in a build I was speccing for him/her already had their CPU, RAM, board etc etc and I got confused lol. :D
