my specs:
Motherboard: Athlon (socket 754) Gigabyte Ga-k8vm800m
Processor: AMD Sempron 2800+
Ram: 512 (not sure what type of ram though:confused:)
Video card: Radeon 9550
Sound card : intergrated with mobo

Im am looking to upgrade my processor to a Pentium IV 630
would this processor be compatible with the rest of my hardware?

if not can you suggest a solution:)

no Amd has a different socket to intel, you would need to change your motherboard for the pentium to work.

well then how reliable is the Amd 64 bit athlon 3200+ for gaming?
and is it a step down or up from the pentium 4 mentioned above?

i believe the amd would be just as good ..it would be the cheaper route to go atleast..you wouldnt have to buy a new Mobo! but if you really wanted to go intel there are pleanty of cheap good motherboards out there...check out neweeg or tigerdirect.. for decent Intel core2 cpu and mobo

Depends what socket, there are 2 sockets I know of AMD produced the 3200+ for (AM2 & 939), there may have even been a socket 754 version.

Ok
wats the deal with the sockets?
is this the size of the pocessor port of the mobo or what?

You have a AMD socket 754 motherboard, the only processors that will fit it is a 754 Athlon64 or a 754 Sempron and if theres a bios update for it a 754 Turion. To run a different processor you will have to get a new motherboard

I,ve still got a 754 with a Sempron64 2800 and have overclocked it to 2.2ghz. Those little Semprons overclock pretty good. Instead of buying a 754 processor I would just overclock it, if motherboard allows a little, and save up and just upgrade the whole thing later.
