Hi, I'm looking for a new laptop but I'm not sure which one to buy. I want one thats built to last, not to bulky and hopefully quad core but I know this is not neccessary in a laptop. So any idea's I am open to, I'm willing to spend up to about £700/£800.

Thanks in advance :)

They are some good suggestions, I've been into my local bestbuy and talked to some of the people in there, they have an Alienware M11x (Netbook) for £600 which is very nice but not what I'm looking for haha, I've also been tempted to buy a mac with the student discount as it meets my budget of £800. But I'm still not sure. I do play a lot of games and some photo/video editing, so anything that is good enough for those would be great. (I mainly play World of Warcraft, SC 2, Fallout, Borderlands etc)

M11x is good, but I think it is too small.
I am not a fan of Apple and I always feel they overpriced. So no comment on that.

You said you don't want it bulky, why you do you choose 17"?

Also, I am not highly recommend HP, and that machine only have integrated vga.

That's just one of the laptops I was shown in bestbuy today, I wasn't too fond of it myself but just wanted some feedback, I agree apple is highly price even with the student discount of around 17% but they are good quality products. I also agree the M11x is way too small that's why I'm not going for that one :)

I got this to use on the road so I wouldn't have to take my Alienware with me.

Cheap, decent specs for $500 laptop, plus its refurbished, so you can get it here for about $300.

As to my recent post^
I just got this from UPS today. The price is $300 USD. I'm not sure how that translates into your currency. But if you can find this available to you, I absolutely recommend it.
